The Eden Project was built in Cornwall in a disused clay mine.  The area was transformed into a global garden where people can learn about nature and be inspired by the world around them. 

The Eden Project is also however an education charity and social enterprise.  It runs social environmental projects, does valuable research into plants and conservation, and it puts on arts, threatre and music events.  Examples of their projects include

• the Barefoot Games, for 16-25 year olds to connect with nature and the real world around them on wild days out. 
• the 21st Century Living Project, encouraging 100 families to reduce their environmental footprint.
• the Growing for Life Project, which has developed into a network of schemes to enable prisoners to grow, nurture and harvest food, but to build a range of associated life skills useful for life after prison.  In the first initiative, the prisoners won at Chelsea Flower Show - you may have seen the programme on the TV.

The Eden Project also has an on-line shop where you can buy various ethical, sustainable and recycled gifts, plants and flowers.
